  1. It has been more than 10 years since my introduction to Prof. Saha, and throughout these years, I have had the good fortune of learning/communicating/discussing a host of things from/with him. I followed Thermodynamics and Solar Energy courses taught by Prof. Saha, and it was obvious for me at the very onset that his decades-long experience, deep understanding of the subject combined with his approachable, down-to-earth nature will make sure that these would come to be one of the best courses I would follow at Jadavpur. He also arranged my summer internship at Suzuki India in the summer of 2008, and in the final year, he introduced me to Climate Change and IPCC, which would make a lasting impression on my mind about ethics and future of science and engineering.

It has been 7 years since then, and we have always talked about academics, non-academic life. I always have had invaluable information and advice from Samirbabu, and have also discussed football, movies and whatnot!
It's a great initiative to have a website for sir, and it looks fantastic. I am certain that I will keep discussing things, science or otherwise with prof. Saha in the coming 10 years with the same intensity as in the last 10!

  2. Professor Samir Saha is simultaneously a great visionary, a very popular teacher, and an exemplary motivator. He was my teacher in just one laboratory class when I did my MS in Jadavpur University. But his influence has never faded from my academic mind-set. I had a closer interaction with Prof. Saha in 2006, when both he and I had an overlap in research visit to Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, USA. I was thoroughly impressed by his futuristic perspective of global energy scenario. Since then we regularly exchange ideas and views on different scientific and academic issues (myself being the beneficiary most of the times).
A well-known educationist and a deep thinker, Prof. Saha has always been ready to help people with his great repository of knowledge and wisdom. He is one of the most active academicians I know on Quora, helping young researchers and students with scientific insights to career advices. Professor Saha is an asset to the academic community of this country, and I look forward to seeing him in a bigger role in transcending the Indian engineering education to the international standard in near future.

  3. In my student life, I have come across only few Professors who have turned out to be true role models for students. Professor Saha is an iconic Professor of that category. However, what puts him apart from the rest is his outstanding academic vision, where he is far ahead from most others of his contemporary era. Having close interaction with Professor Saha makes me clearly realize how updated and contemporary he is in terms his knowledge and broad awareness about the scientific and engineering world.

To the best of my understanding, the contribution of Professor Saha has been grossly under-rated. He has been the pioneer to introduce several revolutionary changes in the curriculum of the Mechanical Engineering Department of Jadavpur University. Former students like us have simply enjoyed the benefit.

As a senior academician in the field, Professor Saha has mentored many great personalities, including some of his students who have now become leaders in their own domains all over the world.

Professor Saha has proven the old saying: a good teacher merely teaches but a great one truly inspires. I wish that he stays in good health and keeps on inspiring his students across generations.

  4. I first experienced the legacy of Prof. Saha as a naive undergraduate student at Jadavpur University. I had the good fortunes of having him as a teacher. But more so, I have been blessed by his extraordinary mentorship throughout my life.

Prof. Saha is an exemplary teacher. But more than that, he is a true thought leader. He is single-handedly responsible for many of the exemplary components of the Mechanical Engineering curriculum at Jadavpur University, specifically in advancing the curriculum to exceed global standards. When i graduated from JU and joined my PhD program at Virginia Tech, with peers comprising the top graduates from all over the world, I was easily the best prepared in many foundational Engineering principles, e.g., in thermal sciences and fluid mechanics.

Prof. Saha has also contributed substantially in furthering the calibre of JU grads by architecting exceptional extracurriculars. To me, the most notable example of extracurriculars was to set up a JU student chapter of ISHRAE, which i had the honour of participating in as the first president.

As a mentor, Prof. Saha seeded me core skills and values that I owe much of my successes to. Examples span the art of networking, network-mining, and identifying opportunities where others see barriers.

Prof. Saha's influence in my life has gone well beyond the classroom. He inspired me to reach for the stars. And, he continues to do so even to this day. From thousands of miles away.
